Environmental Policy
of Go Rentals

Go Car Rental is a medium-sized Icelandic car rental service boasting a fleet of over 600 rental cars. Over the past few years, we have experienced significant growth and are dedicated to being at the forefront of environmental responsibility in Iceland.

Go Car Rental is committed to minimizing the negative environmental impacts of its operations and continually seeks ways to reduce both direct and indirect environmental effects.

Our proactive approach encompasses the following measures:

  1. Selecting vehicles and associated equipment for our fleet based on operational efficiency, environmental considerations of the manufacturer, and recognized assessments by independent entities.
  2. Increasing the number of environmentally-friendly vehicles in our fleet, such as hybrid and electric cars.
  3. Ensuring that the company's waste is sorted, recycled, reused, or disposed of in accordance with laws and good practices.
  4. Choosing suppliers based on their environmental perspectives as much as possible, aligning with our values.
  5. Emphasizing continuous improvements in environmental matters, adhering to the laws and regulations relevant to the company's operational environment at all times.
  6. Focusing on enhancing the participation of Go Car Rental’s employees in environmental matters through regular training and an annual Go Car Rental environmental day.
  7. Placing additional emphasis on offering Go Car Rental’s leaseholders the opportunity to offset their carbon emissions with a new calculator that considers the driving and size of the rented vehicle.

Carbon Neutral Journey

Collaboration between Go Car Rental and the Icelandic Carbon Fund (Kolviður) enables Go Car Rental’s customers to offset the carbon emissions from their journeys through tree planting and other projects.

The Icelandic Carbon Fund (Kolviður) was established by the Icelandic Forestry Association and the Environmental Association of Iceland.

The objective of Kolviður is to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by sequestering carbon in vegetation and soil. The funds contributed go towards afforestation projects, such as tree planting on designated areas for long-term or up to 90-year agreements with Kolviður.

Planting and maintenance of these forests are carried out by local forestry associations or other contractors. The project is certified and audited by KPMG Iceland.
